"September is the other January" Gretchen Rubin
Every September my schedule shifts and changes for the upcoming school year. Like most of my students in September I start anew with summer being a lesson rollercoaster ride until again it is September. During the school year my schedule is solid with weekly lessons and seasonal recitals. During covid, I was able to continue lessons, mostly online, and although it was chaotic at times my students and I made it through. I have not been able to get back to pre-covid levels. Now post-covid I've decided to change my schedule to best accommodate my current students and add new students. Seattle Parks and Recreation is where I started in-person lessons years ago at International District Community Center. I have over the years been relocated to other community centers to keep my students learning. Seattle Parks isn't going back to in-person lessons and I feel my students should get a choice, at least on Saturdays. My Monday schedule is not changing. I see results in both in-person and online learning. The change, beginning Saturday October 7th I will be teaching Saturday's at El Centro de la Raza. Lessons include piano, guitar and drum set . El Centro de la Raza is ideally located my Seattle students to conveniently meet with me. El Centro has been kind enough to provide me a space and a piano to use. During my years in Beacon Hill I have periodically been able to use my sound tech abilities to help El Centro at community events. First event of the year: On September 30th at 6pm I want to invite all my current, new, and potential students to a recital and potluck to kick off the year. I want to encourage all my current and past students to come and meet the community you are a part of. It might surprise you to see how many families I see on a weekly basis. My community is large and diverse, like Seattle itself. RSVP for this event here. You can sign up for Lessons on Saturday's at Centro at the event or online by emailing me at bkgsound@gmail.com In the near future I will be posting my schedule here on my website. Bonus for my students: I plan to post a newsletter every season or four times a year. At the end of every newsletter I want to include a (media) easter egg for them to figure out. Because my student age range is 4-99 it might be harder for me than it is for you, enjoy! Using this cipher notate your name and play if for me during your lesson. |
